About Utsunomiya Omotenashi Team
Many foreign or inbound tourists visiting Tochigi Prefecture, especially the World Heritage Site "Nikko", utilize the JR Tohoku Shinkansen. Utsunomiya Station sees a high influx of inbound travelers from various countries who transfer from the Shinkansen to the JR Nikko Line. To optimize these layovers, students in International Studies play a central role by organizing monthly events to entertain inbound tourists in the transfer concourse of JR Utsunomiya Station. The vast majority of inbound tourists use the Japan Rail Pass, which allows unlimited travel on all JR lines in Japan, and many opt for JR trains. In addition, many inbound tourists who use railroads are independent travelers, and many of them enjoy interacting with local people. For this reason, hospitality events that emphasize interaction with local university students through traditional Japanese games such as origami have been warmly received. In anticipation of continued inbound visits, we also maintain communication with Utsunomiya City and Mashiko Town, among others.
